August 1981 saw the release of this stunning looking and hugely popular entry level buggy, with its lower speed 380 motor, on the same chassis as the Holiday Buggy.  To this day, the Sand Rover remains very popular with many enthusiasts restoring and customising for display owing to its dreamy good scale looks.

This was most peoples (of my age group) first RC car along with the holiday buggy. Its classic VW beach buggy body was perfect. I was lucky enough to manage to get an SRB but so loved the look of the HB and SR that I soon traded some of my other toys of the time for SR off a friend which was already fitted with the 540 motor and a battery pack that his father had made which was around 2000mah the tamiya ones of the time where 1200mah so the extra long running was a bonus.

Well being a certified dune buggy nut this one has always had a special place for me. I have built several, some to match friends real Manx’s and still have one I use as a runner and one that is NIB. Ok, so it was not the best car they ever built but it runs OK and were cheap and plentiful as they say. Just built for fun! the way it should be.
