Tamiya’s second 3-speed offering, coming in with a slightly more affordable spec in June 1982.  Instantly recognisable and justifiably commands a very high price for collectors.

On family camping trips to Stratford upon Avon we used to walk back from the town to the campsite past a small modelshop. In the window was a rather faded Blazing Blazer box that I used to eye up everytime I went by. It seemed to be there year after year and I used to imagine what it would be like to own it. I lost count of the amount of hints I dropped to my Dad but never got to get my hands on it, which with hind sight was probably no bad thing. For some reason the Blazer lodged it’s self in my mind, like an itch that needed scratching, well last year I scratched that it and bought the car shown above in the picture. They make a great car to admire on the shelf and run occassionally. They are slow, clunky and very expensive to crash, but that makes them what they are, To me they are one of the most Iconic Tamiya’s out there.

I never saw this off roader in my local hobby shop and thats the reason it became so desirable to own, about five years ago I was lucky to own 13 of these in various states of repair/restoration. The tyres were always and still are the hard things to find and keep in good condition, I know of one local Tamiya fan that owned the first 50 in NIB and new built states and upon inspection found the new built kit had suffered the dreaded tyre rot. Have over a period of years sadly traded them all on, -if the front grille has alloy tape chances are it came from me. The Blazer so American, so off road and with limited numbers produced it’s got to be iconic!

The classic American Chevy truck on the original 3 speed chassis what a great combo. Not as popular as the Toyata, perhaps that is why they comnd the price they do. I really need to get mine together, been gathering bits for a long time perhaps I should get to it. Can’t believe someone is casting a repro body now but I have seen his work and it is very good.
